Red Balau is commonly sold in the decking market under the name Batu. It is a tropical hardwood option used for exterior decks, porches, terraces and other outdoor applications where a warm reddish-brown appearance is desired.

Amazon Hardwoods can prepare project-specific quotes for Red Balau / Batu based on current availability, required profile, quantity, destination and timing. We do not assume stock or lead time until the material is confirmed for the order.

Is Red Balau / Batu the same as mahogany?

Red Balau / Batu belongs to the Shorea group. Some Shorea woods have historically been sold under trade names such as Philippine mahogany or meranti, but Red Balau / Batu is not true mahogany from the Swietenia genus. We use the Red Balau / Batu name on our quotes so the species group is clear.

Planning a Red Balau / Batu deck

Start with deck dimensions, framing spacing, board size, edge profile, fastening method, border and stair details, delivery ZIP code and needed date. These details help calculate lineal footage and accessory requirements.

Square-edge or grooved decking

Square-edge boards are typically used with face screws or plug systems. Grooved profiles can be used with compatible hidden-fastener systems when the board groove and clip are matched correctly. Review our decking accessories when preparing the material list.
